For a long time, dentures or a bridge were the only recourse to replace teeth lost to decay or injury. In the past few decades, dental implants emerged as a better solution.
But, if there’s a drawback to conventional implants, it’s the length of time between implanting the post and capping the implant with a crown. Traditional implants need time for the post to integrate with the jawbone before it can support the normal loads that your teeth regularly absorb.
UltraTooth™ implants represent a change in approach that permits same-day completion of the tooth replacement, making it an ideal solution for teeth suddenly lost due to a dental emergency. Check in with our implant specialists at Global Facial Aesthetics, located in River Forest, Illinois, to find out if UltraTooth is the right implant choice for you.
The dental implant process
All dental implant systems share the same general structure. There’s a post that’s implanted into the jawbone, an abutment that extends from the post, and a crown — the visible portion of the tooth replacement that fastens to the abutment.
The post is placed first because, in a conventional implant, the bone of your jaw must grow around the post in a process called osseointegration before it is stable enough to withstand the pressures exerted by biting and chewing. Months later, when osseointegration is confirmed, the abutment and crown are fitted. Unfortunately, that could take six months or longer.
When a conventional implant is finally completed, it has an expected lifespan of 25 years or more. The integrated post restores the natural interaction between root and bone that dentures can’t provide.
The UltraTooth difference
UltraTooth is the only system cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for same-day implanting. Your UltraTooth implant can bear a load at the end of your appointment.
Yet, there’s only one small difference between UltraTooth and conventional implants. While osseointegration will happen with UltraTooth, it’s not necessary before the implant comes under force.
Perhaps the best way to explain it is to compare implants to common home hardware. A conventional implant is much like a bolt or a screw. The threads of the implant mesh with the jawbone to set and stabilize.
UltraTooth works like a type of wall anchor. When an UltraTooth post is implanted, it’s then tightened, causing its base to expand against the side of the implant cavity. That creates lateral pressure that holds the UltraTooth implant in place immediately.
There’s no delay waiting for your implant post to integrate. The abutment and crown can be placed the same day as your UltraTooth post. That makes UltraTooth ideal for sudden tooth loss. Your replacement tooth is fully functional as soon as your procedure is complete.
